Liverpool - The Gateway to an Empire

Liverpool Liver Buildings

.

Liverpool is a maritime city, showcasing many of its majestic buildings, saturated in history. From its world class dock heritage to giving premise to the world’s famous music band, The Beatles. Liverpool is a city to be reckoned with and it does so through its humour and kindness. If you are visiting Liverpool for the first time, here are a few tips to help you explore this famous city and its attractions, making you see why people are proud to call Liverpool their home.

St George’s Hall

  1. St George’s Hall.

As soon as you step out of Lime Street Station, you are immediately greeted by a monumental view, which exhibits a grand and opulent centre peace at the city’s heart. St. George’s Hall opened in 1854, giving home to a concert hall and law courts. Why not take a trip inside the old victorian prison cells or see what it’s like to sit in the judge’s chair. If you’re hungry you can always pop into the Home Baked Bakery for a freshly baked pie or other various pastry dishes. The place is known for serving thousands of Liverpool football fans on match days in Anfield.

2. The Anglican Cathedral.

This gargantuan structure sits proudly on Liverpool’s city skyline. The Anglican Cathedral is England’s largest cathedral and is the fifth largest in the world. Its mere gothic presence will seize your attention as it cascades its beauty for miles around. It is said, that people from Manchester can observe it from their city skyscraper apartments. Why not head inside and take a walk up to the top. There, you will be welcomed by a mesmerising view of Liverpool and if you’re lucky, you maybe able to catch a glimpse of Snowdon in Wales.

Mathew Street - Liverpool

3. Mathew Street (The Birth Place of The Beatles)

One of the most famous streets in the world. From The Cavern club, who showcased The Beatles , to its Wall of Fame. Mathew street has played host to all kinds of famous music artists in the past, from The Who, Stevie Wonder and U2. Also it makes for a great (if not insane) night out.

4. The Baltic Triangle

A creative, digital hotspot, hosting many bars, restaurants and cafes. The Baltic Triangle attracts a hip, artistic style. You are sure to be seduced, while walking its bohemian streets, nestled amongst old brick warehouses and more modern apartments and offices. There is the main Red Brick Market, which sells items from the vintage, retro range to a more modern artistic style. The Baltic even has its own Yellow Submarine, where you can pop in for an alcoholic beverage. Or if you’re feeling peckish, why not try the popular Baltic Market, which showcases many international food stores. From Venezuelan to Greek, the food will titillate your taste buds, leaving you wanting more.

6. Bold Street

Bold Street is the place to be when looking for many multinational restaurants and bars. Sit back, relax and watch the hustle and bustle of Liverpool’s popular street. It is Liverpool’s answer to London’s Camden Town. If you’re lucky, you’ll be able to catch a glimpse of a street festival (or two) and don’t forget to say hi to our dear busker playing Latin music outside La Parrilla.

Lark Lane - South Liverpool

7. Lark Lane

Lark Lane is a hidden gem situated in South Liverpool. A street full of quirky shops, bars and restaurants and attracts visitors from all around the country. 9. The Albert Dock

The Albert Dock showcases its dock history. From its dark connection to the slave trade to its lighter regeneration of a docklands once left behind. It is a triumphant achievement to get this far. Liverpool has the most museums in the UK, outside of London. They include Museum of Liverpool, International Slave Trade museum, The Maritime History Museum, The TATE and The Beatles Museum.

Anfield Stadium
